Concrete jungle, reclaimed

Title: Concrete Jungle, reclaimed
Medium and size: Acrylic on 20.32 cm x 25.40 canvas
Concrete Jungle, Reclaimed is inspired by a view from my Digbeth flat, captured three years ago. What first caught my attention was not just a single buddleia forcing its way through a warehouse outer walls, but an entire scattering of wildflowers quietly reclaiming an abandoned space. Set against Birmingham’s evolving skyline, with cranes marking constant change, the scene reflects a tension between decay and renewal. A faint reference to the Black Sabbath mural lingers in the background, anchoring the piece in the city’s cultural memory. Through expressive colour and light, I explore how beauty persists within harsh, industrial environments suggesting resilience, growth, and the quiet power of nature to reclaim and transform even the most unlikely spaces.
